Description
This three-volume collection follows on from the widespread series of ‘Schnurrpfeiffereyen’ notebooks. Inspired by concerts and encounters at festivals at home and abroad, Martina Sirtl has compiled a large number of beautiful and easily playable (dance) melodies, whose origins range from the 13th to the 20th century. All the melodies in “Ein gutter nerrisch Tantz – Band 3” can be played on drone instruments such as bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy and many other instruments and offer musicians a rich expansion of their repertoire.
A historical round dance
“Ein gutter nerrisch Tantz – Band 3” brings together a total of 73 two- to four-part dances from the 13th to 18th centuries from Italy, France, Germany, England and the Netherlands. They are arranged in groups according to the origin of the composers. Only original sentences that have been adapted to our modern spelling have been included. Preference was given to composers who set their dances for special instruments such as hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, crumhorn, pommer, shawm, cittern, etc.
Musical diversity in every note
Almost half of the dances in “Ein gutter nerrisch Tantz – Band 3” are notated in ‘C’, about a quarter each in ‘F’ and ‘G’. Italy: Francesco Corteccia, Salomone Rossi, Giovanni Giacomo Gastoldi. France: Etienne Dutertre, Claude Gervaise, Jean-Baptiste Loeillet. Germany: Michael Praetorius, Johann Christoph Pez. England: William Brade, Thomas Morley. Netherlands: Tielman Susato, Jakob Arcadelt, Joannes de Gruijtters.
For lovers of historical sounds
Only original sentences adapted to our modern spelling are noted. The four-part movements by Michael Praetorius, for example, are particularly suitable in key and range for double-reed instruments such as crumhorns and pomeranians. In the compositions of the French masters of the 18th century, “Ein gutter nerrisch Tantz – Band 3” emphasizes the instruments so popular in France during the Rococo period, such as the musette and vielle (bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy).
