Weimar will soon be the meeting place for early music folk and lively dance music! Verlag der Spielleute will be at the 12th Playground Festival to present sheet music, instruments and our latest publications. This year under the motto: “To the source…” early music folk meets the lively dance music from German lands. This festival is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of historical German dance music in the midst of a great festival atmosphere. Workshops, sessions, concerts and lots of spontaneous interaction make the Playground Festival a highlight for anyone who is passionate about dance, music and history.
What can you expect?
This year’s festival focuses on the Dahlhoff Collection – a huge collection of 800 dance melodies dating back to the 18th century that has only been rediscovered in recent years. Here the old melodies are brought to life by renowned artists such as Matthias Branschke and Merit Zloch. In the instrumental course, you learn directly by ear, just as it used to be – you don’t need to know sheet music! If you are more into dance, Mareike Greb offers you an insight into the playful world of 18th century theater dances in the dance course to Gregorio Lambranzi. You will be introduced to theatrical dance scenes with lots of humor and creativity – perfect for anyone who enjoys movement and expression! There is also a special workshop for singersand loversof early folk songs: Martin Erhardt will teach you the oldest German “folk songs”, which were recorded in the Lochamer-Liederbuch from the 15th century. Together you will arrange the pieces and immerse yourself in the old musical tradition.
Concerts and sessions
In addition to the workshops, there are also concerts – like that of The Playfords, who will provide unforgettable moments on Saturday evening with their program “Mit Lust vor wenig Tagen”. And if you fancy some spontaneous music, the jam sessions offer plenty of opportunity to play yourself and soak up the musical atmosphere.
