Description

“Bourrée Bourrée Bourrée” introduces you to the diverse world of the French folk dance Bourrée. The author of our popular Breton dance book here presents basics and specifics of 30 different French bourre dances.

Historical development and musical significance

Discover the historical development of this traditional dance from the 16th century to the present day. Understand the controversies about the origin of the name and learn more about the bourrée as a musical form.

Dance styles from different regions

The bourrée in its very different forms has been one of the most popular dances in the German bal folk scene for many years. The French bourrée originates from folk traditions in Auvergne, Berry, Limousin, Bourbonnais and Morvan.

Modern interpretations of traditional choreographies

However, the dance forms that can be observed in these regions today, and the way they are danced, no longer have much to do with the original traditions. Today’s dance practice is a revival of the bourrée with changes that are characterized by the teaching of various dance leaders.

Dance steps and choreographies

The dance descriptions are based on contemporary practice and are more an interpretation of the traditional repertoire than a strict documentation of the bourrée styles of past centuries. Allow yourself to learn the steps and figures such as Bourrée droite, Avant-deux and many more.

Your dance instructions as a book and CD

For dancing the bourrée choreographies presented in the book, the CD from our new dance repertoire series “Bourrée Bourrée Bourrée” with recordings of the dances in an easily danceable form is included with the book.

Foreword

“For just as all books are freed from their defects and made more perfect through the continuation and diligence of skillful people: so I also gladly confess that I am still publishing an imperfect and, as it were, only tempting work, which other, more skillful masters may lend a helping hand to the public for the best, until a completely perfect work is finally available.”

Gottfried Taubert “Rechtschaffener Tanzmeister oder gründliche Erklärung
of the French Art of Dancing”, Leipzig 1717
